⏳ When you have 10 minutes in between clients or before you open your doors, how do you spend it?

Do you spend too much time on tasks that don't "move the needle" for your small business?

I am extremely guilty of this...

I chalk it up to "research" but really there are so many things that can be done in a short amount of time that all local small business owners could benefit from.

Sometimes it just takes knowing what to do and how to focus your efforts as small actions can make big impacts for local small business owners.

If you have 10 minutes in between clients or spend 10 minutes doing small "marketing" things before the hustle and bustle of the day, I have an idea of what you can do!

And I think I'll make this a weekly series…!

For today, try this:

🐝 Open the last place a customer contacted you - email, website inquiry, DM, Google listing, etc
🐝 Now ask: Is it obvious what I sell or do, how to buy, how to schedule or visit my business?
🐝 If not, fix that first.

Maybe it's clear to you, but not clear to your customers. Lean into that and work on making your marketing more clear.

So that’s it. One idea with potentially huge impact.

I haven't done any sort of intentional reset at the new year in ages, but after starting my own small business in 2025, this seemed like a good time to be more thoughtful as we welcome 2026.

As a local small business owner, if you've ever uttered the words "I don't have time to do that" or "I don't need to market, I'm in a great location" etc, this post is for you!

When I hear those sentences, I automatically assume the owner is busy enough and marketing isn't a priority.

OR maybe you don't exactly understand what marketing means and it's often lumped in with paid advertising which you also don't understand [where to start].

🐝 Search the address and see how long it's going to take me to get there
🐝 Search for the phone number so I can tell them I'm running late...!
🐝 Look for any updated specials on their website
🐝 Check out reviews and any comments that would make me think about going elsewhere (or see if anyone I know made some remarks...!)
🐝 View their social pages or see if they are running ads in my area.

And if I'm traveling, I will always search "near me" for restaurants, emergency services (car care, home care, or healthcare, etc).
